When night was over all the earth, beneath a starry sky, a homeless child was brought to birth and cried as babies cry: and from his lips his mother heard the voice of God's incarnate Word. To shepherds keeping watch and ward there came from heaven's King the glorious angel of the Lord, with joyful news to bring: a Savior born in David's town, the Lamb of God to earth come down. The passing years their courses run, the stars are still the same, as when God sent to us his Son, with JESUS for his Name: as when the Magi journeyed far to seek their King beneath a star. Those midnight skies with praises rang above where Jesus lay, and still the songs the angels sang are ours to sing today: such songs as lift the heart above in praise of him whose Name is Love.
