Avery, Richard K.
RICHARD K. AVERY (b. 1934) is a native of California's central valley. He graduated from the University of Redlands in California and then from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. At Union, his teachers included New Testament scholar, John Knox, and theologians Reinhold Niebuhr and Robert McAfee Brown. For 40 years he served as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Jervis, NY, a small city 80 miles from New York City. He has also traveled widely with his colleague, Donald Marsh, leading workshops in creative worship and music. A recent count has them visiting 46 of our 50 states as well as Europe. Today Dick lives in retirement in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Most of his copyrights he composed with Don Marsh are represented by the Hope Publishing Company.
