Thomas Pavlechko

THOMAS PAVLECHKO (b. 1962) is the Cantor and Composer-in-Residence at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Austin, a church he previously served as Director of Music and Principal Organist from 1994 to 2000. He was Organist-Choirmaster at Calvary Episcopal Church in Memphis, Tennessee from 2000 to 2006. In addition to serving churches since 1978 in Ohio, Virginia, Tennessee and Texas, Pavlechko has also taught on the adjunct faculties of the Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest, Austin, and Richard Bland College, Prince William, Virginia.

Named the Emerging Hymn Tune Composer by the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada in 2002, 83 of Pavlechko's 102 hymn tunes are now in print on four continents. He is the arranger of over 600 hymn-based Psalm settings in two editions of his St. Martin's Psalter. His choral and instrumental music can be found in print with six publishers throughout North America and the United Kingdom. For three years, Pavlechko served on the Liturgical Music Editorial Team of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to help select and edit service music settings to be included in EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN WORSHIP, a hymnal that also contains his service music and hymns. He is the co-author of the primary worship planning resource of the Episcopal Church U.S.A., LITURGICAL MUSIC FOR THE REVISED COMMON LECTIONARY, released in three volumes by Church Publishing.

Pavlechko is an honors graduate of the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University and the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. He has also pursued private study in symphonic orchestration with Donald Grantham at the University of Texas at Austin.
