Lloyd A. Pfautsch
LLOYD A. PFAUTSCH (1921-2003) was born in Washington, Missouri. He received his BA and MSM from Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, Illinois; his M.Div from Union Theological Seminary; and Mus.D and LL.D from Illinois Wesleyan University. Ordained in the United Church of Christ, he spent most of his career at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, where he was Professor of Sacred Music and Director of Choral Music from 1958 to 1992. He conducted six different choral ensembles during his tenure, and organized and conducted the Dallas Civic Chorus for 25 years. An active composer and arranger, he has over 300 published editions with 15 different music publishers. Many of his anthems can still be found in the Hope Publishing Company catalog, including his popular "Go and Tell John", which is available in SATB (CY 3334), SAB (CY 3342), and SSA (CY 3372), and his widely used SATB setting of "The Star Spangled Banner" (SP 681).
