William S. Kervin

WILLIAM S. KERVIN (b. 1959) is Associate Professor of Public Worship at Emmanuel College in the Toronto School of Theology (University of Toronto), and Director of Chapel for the worship life of the college. He holds degrees from the Toronto School of Theology (ThD), the Atlantic School of Theology (MDiv) and Mount Allison University (BSc). An ordained minister in The United Church of Canada, he has served congregations in Toronto, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Alberta and Papua New Guinea. He has been actively involved in the production of the United Church's music and worship resources, Voices United, Celebrate God's Presence and More Voices, as a committee member, liturgical consultant, writer and composer. A frequent guest preacher and workshop leader, he also regularly serves as a worship consultant to congregations.

His research interests include United Church worship, liturgical theology, liturgical inculturation, congregational song, church architecture and ritual studies. He is the author of Ordered Liberty (United Church Publishing House, 2011), Gathered for Worship (UCPH, 2010), The Language of Baptism (Scarecrow, 2003) and A Year of Grace (Hendrickson/SPCK, 2003).

Most of the time he'd rather be cooking, playing traditional Irish music (on the bodhran or vocals), or on the road with his partner Linda in their VW camper.
