Margaret Clarkson

MARGARET CLARKSON (1915-2008) was born in Western Canada and grew up and was educated in Toronto. For 38 years she taught elementary school in Ontario. A gifted and natural writer, she has published hundreds of poems, articles, songs and sketches as well as 17 books in seven languages. Hymn writing was her first love and sprang from the fruit of a lifetime of Biblical study, personal Christian experience, and a disciplined lyrical expression. In 1987 her hymns were published in one collection under the title A SINGING HEART by the Hope Publishing Company. In 1992 at their National Convention, Margaret was named a Fellow of The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada in recognition of her contribution to hymnody. Margaret has seven hymn texts that have been included in the index of Hope's new hymnal WORSHIP & REJOICE (2001).
