ALAN GAUNT (b. 1935) was born in Manchester, England, and educated at Silcoates School (a Congregational Foundation) where the standard of worship set by the Headmaster made its appropriate impression. After completing his education at Lancashire Independent College in Manchester, he held various ministerial posts in the congregational (now United Reformed Church) and served as Minister at Windermere United Reformed Church in the English Lake District. Always a reader and lover of poetry, attempts at writing eventually bore fruit during the period of his ministry at Heswall (1974 - 1985) where a thriving poetry group and poetry workshop provided a suitable stimulus. His first hymn was written in 1960. Married to Winifred, they live in retirement in South Wirral. In the United States and Canada his hymns are all represented by Hope Publishing and available in the collection ALWAYS FROM JOY Code No. 1994. Two of his hymn texts have been included in the new Hope hymnal WORSHIP & REJOICE (2001).
