Paul Wohlgemuth

PAUL WOHLGEMUTH (1927-1987) was born in Fairview, Oklahoma. He received his BA from Tabor College Hillsboro, Kansas an M.S. in Music from Kansas State Emporia, Kansas, and his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California, in L.A. where he studied under Dr. Charles Hurt. A music educator all of his adult life he taught at both Tabor, Biola and in his last position at Oral Roberts University Tulsa, Oklahoma. A Mennonite Brethren, in 1971 he served as Chairman-Editor for WORSHIP HYMNAL, the official hymnal of that denomination. Paul contributed a chapter to the Erik Routley festschrift DUTY & DELIGHT (1985) Code No. 782. His choral setting A 454 OF THE FATHER'S LOVE BEGOTTEN has been a best seller in the Hope catalog for years. A member of the editorial committee that compiled THE WORSHIPING CHURCH - A Hymnal (1990) Paul was tragically killed in a five car automobile crash over the Christmas Holidays in 1987.
