Held, Wilbur
Wilbur C. Held
WILBUR C. HELD (b. 1914) was born in Des Plaines, Illinois, and received his B.M. and M.M. degrees at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. He then attended Union Theological Seminary in New York City where he earned his S.M.D. A member of the Episcopal Church, for many years Dr. Held was Professor of Organ and Church Music at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. In 1953 H.W. Gray published his first manuscript entitled SIX CALLS TO WORSHIP. In 1992 he wrote an organ setting of STILLE NACHT, which he titled PASTORALE ON SILENT NIGHT (Code No. 325) in the Hope Catalog. It was dedicated to his friend, Dr. Morgan Summons, who was then organist/choirmaster at Chicago's Fourth Presbyterian Church. Dr. Held lives in retirement in Claremont, California.
