Morgan Simmons

MORGAN SIMMONS (b. 1929) For 28 years, Morgan Simmons served as the distinguished organist and choirmaster of the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago (1968-1996). A native of Andalusia, AL, he received his undergraduate degree in music from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, and holds Masters and Doctors degrees in sacred music from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. As a Fulbright Scholar, he attended the Royal School of Church Music in Croydon, England. He was Assistant Professor of Church Music at Garrett-Evangelical Seminary from 1963 to 1977, and minister of music at First United Methodist Church of Evanston, IL, before his appointment to Fourth Church. He has served as Dean of the North Shore Chapter of the AGO, and he and his wife, Mary, also an organist, live in Evanston. They have three children and six grandchildren. Many of his anthems and hymns have been published by Hope.
