This piece is a gem. It's exactly what I was looking for since Easter is earlier this year. It's easier, but the material is original. Most of the easy cantatas out there are just hymns sung to orchestration which would get old and boring in about 3 weeks. There are some unexpected things in this cantata, like the rap style piece and the reprise, which I had never seen in a cantata before. The melding of cantata and musical theatre, the blend of sacred and secular, is what makes this piece interesting. Mr. Choplin has done a great job with this cantata. There is a real market for this kind of original work that is easier but still challenging. My group is really enjoying learning this. I hope that many composers write pieces like this at this level. We'd buy every one.
Another absolutely beautiful Holy Week cantata by Pepper Choplin. Our choir has so enjoyed learning and singing this together-- each piece is unique and so very deliberate. The emotions of the Easter story really come alive for the musicians and listeners alike. Highly recommend!
