Of the several great arrangements in this collection, we chose "Carol of the Bells" for our quartet this year. The players all agree that Michael's arrangements are certainly more interesting than many of the quartets that are available . Our violist was especially delighted that she wasn't just accompanying but one of four valued soloists! And the first violinist got to try her hand at playing a background part in sections. It certainly will make each player more aware of how to play a supporting role, as well as playing a featured role, which each player in this piece gets to have. If you're looking for interesting, playable arrangements that will still challenge each player in your quartet, Michael is one to discover. (I even asked a song question on his website and he was quick to cheerfully respond.) For now, there is plenty in this book to keep my quartet happy, and I look forward to his next offering.
