1. Beyond a gentle tolerance we'll stride to affirm and defend, calling to all excluded and decried, "Welcome, friend! Welcome, friend!" When opponents terrorize, spreading hate and lies, word and deed we will synthesize. With love and prayer we'll organize to affirm and defend. 2. Joined to the past, we mend a broken net at a boat by the sea, moved by a voice that sings and whispers yet, "Come with me! Come with me!" When we tell how Jesus led, all he did and said, cup of sorrow and broken bread, the Spirit calls, through years ahead, "Come with me! Come with me!" 3. Spirit of Christ, come, energize our life through and through, deep within. Speak through the whirl of glamor, greed and strife, make a way through the din. Nerve and nudge us as we go, though the love we show be a starburst, or just a glow, as peace and courage seed and grow through and through, deep within. 4. Then shall we live a healing, loving creed, sung and prayed, seen and done, weaving a rainbow robe of word and deed, held in trust, handed on; and when mercy is taboo, justice all askew, Christ will pow'r us to keep in view the promise of a world made new, held in trust, handed on.
