I did not see the star that shone
on sleeping Bethlehem,
that told the Magi Christ was come
and bid them worship him:
but in my heart a star is risen
whose glory shines so bright
its glow surpasses Bethlehem's blaze--
for Jesus is my light.
I did not hear the angels' song
ring over Judah's plain,
that wondrous word of peace on earth
and God's goodwill to men:
but in my heart an anthem peals,
and even angel throng
could never carol hymn so sweet--
for Jesus is my Song.
I did not go to Bethlehem
to worship where he lay,
the Son of God made Son of Man
to take my sins away:
but yet I know his life today,
this Christ whom angels sing,
for in my heart he lives and reigns,
my Savior, Lord and King.
