'God rested on the Seventh Day' Reflects a human need; And what the ancient scriptures say The wise will surely heed: That God, the great Creator, blest This day to be a day of rest. A Day of Rest, a Day of Praise, A Day when God provides Fresh energy for working days, In doubt and trouble guides. How lovely is that dwelling place Where we are conscious most of grace! And yet, how soon we can destroy The Sabbath God has given; To sourness turn our sacred joy, And make a hell of heaven. Too strict we lose the right to choose; Too lax our soul's direction lose. Be it the Seventh Day or First We cherish and observe, As those who hunger still and thirst, And humbly seek to serve, God help us keep and use with care The precious heritage we share.
