She dared to come before the king
to save her people from a fate
a cruel man had planned for them--
a man puffed up with pride and hate.
The king was pleased to see his queen,
and as they shared the sumptuous food,
she used her power righteously
to move the king to do some good.
She told the king about the plot
to kill the Jews throughout the land,
because they would not bow and pray
to idols at the king's command.
The king, dismayed to hear the news
of treachery against his reign,
employed the gallows to destroy
the murderers in his domain.
Remember Esther saved the Jews
from prejudice and crimes of hate,
so give your presents to the poor,
be glad for life, and celebrate.
