Women came to Jacob's Well, filled their pitchers to the brim, carried them down dusty roads, bringing water for the day. Fishermen out on the sea let their mended nets down deep. Farmers watched for signs of spring, children cried for milk and bread. People shivered in the cold, sleeping when and where they could. Shepherds huddled in the hills, singing softly to themselves. To this world you came to live, Word made flesh you came to dwell: God from God and Light from Light, Jesus, our Emmanuel.
