Coming to God with child-like trust
is hard for grown-up minds to do:
it works against our wish to be
shapers of our own destiny.
Yet in our heart of hearts we must
know, when we fail to keep in view
values we claim to be our guide,
how empty we then feel inside.
Throughout the course of life we know
something is lacking but not why,
finding at last what we searched for
waiting beyond an open door.
This humble gate to grace is low,
so none go through with head held high;
here human pride must learn to bend,
awed by the blessing God will send.
