No church completes construction when walls and roof are done; the more important building has only then begun: the living stones, its people, upheld by love and prayer, become the lasting witness that God indeed is there. Though we are glad to gather within this sheltered space, to hear the words of scripture, to sing the hymns of grace, we know our worship calls us beyond the church's door to work for peace and justice and green the earth once more. The holy transformation that hallows bread and wine extends to those assembled, as blessing and as sign. Baptismal grace renewing, this sacred meal makes clear that we are sent as bearers of love that casts out fear. The measure of thanksgiving is not in word but deed, so we go forth committed to serve a world in need. O God, inspire our efforts and this great grace impart: that we may see your image in ev'ry face and heart.
