The road to Capernaum was dusty and hot. The traveling disciples debated their lot, to know who was greatest and show who was not, their merits comparing; their tempers were flaring when Jesus called, "Come unto me." "Of what were you speaking?" he asked, and he smiled. Despite their disputing, his question was mile. Then into their midst, he invited a child: "The blessing of heaven to such will be given, who trustingly come unto me." Then crossing the Jordan, still earnest and proud, they tried to keep Jesus apart from the crowd. So, blessing of little ones wasn't allowed. They thought to appease him, but sorely displeased him. "Let children," he cried, "come unto me!" "For children," he said, "know on whom they depend. They freely ask 'Why' when they don't comprehend, and stand ever eager to love and befriend, with hugs and embraces, delighted by graces... Be like them, and come unto me."
