Sing joyfully to God our strength!
Let voices raise a melody
as tambourines provide a beat
while lyres and harps weave harmony.
Let trumpets greet the new-moon feast
when we from bondage were released.
Hear what an unknown voice declares:
“I eased the load your shoulders knew
and loosed your hands from tiresome toil;
I heard your cry and rescued you.
I spoke to you in thunder-burst
and tested your weak faith with thirst.”
“Hear, O my people, listen well:
among you no strange god shall be
to which you worship and bow down,
for I your God have set you free
from servitude that you may live
and taste the blessings I will give.”
“Because my people shunned my voice,
I left them to their stubbornness.
If only they would hear and heed,
their enemies I could suppress.
My people would my bounty share
of finest wheat and honey rare.”
