The God who sent the prophets Inspired them for our good, To help us face the menace Of evils they withstood. How faithfully they warn us, From Israel's stormy past, That those who sow injustice Reap judgment at the last. They say the Judge of nations Is making all things new; That when the many fail him, He saves us by the few. In this prophetic promise Our anxious spirits rest; In them, his chosen Remnant, The future shall be blessed. Yet not by being righteous May we secure our place, Or think to serve the future Save in the strength of grace. For there is but one Saviour. The One we crucified, The lonely Suffering Servant Who calls us to his side.
