Day of the Lord, how shall we know your coming, how shall we see your final dawn appear? Angry with fire and heaven's thunder drumming, dark with the doom of judgment drawing near? So once the prophet Joel saw in vision locust and famine sweeping through the land, multitudes, gathered for a last decision, saw and proclaimed the Lord's great day at hand. Then with an eye beyond disaster ranging, faith saw the Spirit on all flesh outpoured; viewed all the Land from the dearth to beauty changing, under the loving impulse of the Lord. Old men dream dreams from heaven's inspiration, young men see visions of God's reign to be, maidens enjoy the wonders of Salvation, servants, of the Spirit's breath of liberty. Day of the Spirit, we have seen your glory, stirring from hearts ablaze with holy flame, kindling the lips that tell the gospel story, glowing in lives which bear the Saviour's name. Still we await the day of consummation, one mighty act of judgment on the earth; when God brings in the longed-for new creation to make an end, and glorious rebirth. Christ will be judge; his work by heath completed shall in that day alone avail for plea. While there is time, ask now how we have treated him who endured the night of Calvary.
