Brooks, R. T.
R. T. Brooks
R. T. "PETER" BROOKS (1918-1985) Reginald Thomas Brooks was born in Harrow Weald, Middlesex, England and educated at Mansfield College, Oxford. A minister in the United Reformed Church, he served the BBC as producer of the religious broadcasting department. "Thanks to God Whose Word Was Spoken" is his most popular hymn and it was written in 1954 at the request of the British and Foreign Bible Society for use in their anniversary celebrations. The verses were designed to show the continuity of divine revelation from the beginning of creation to the present time, with the Bible as that indispensable record of the revelation. The Hope Publishing Company controls the U.S. and World rights on this hymn which is found as #662 in WORSHIP & REJOICE (2001).
