Within a womb of darkness the blind man passed his days; with searching steps he wandered the city's winding ways. His groping fingers taught him the contours of his world, but from life's swirl and center his blindness kept him walled. When Jesus came to touch him and show God's healing power, the blind man did his bidding in trembling hope and fear. Washing Siloam's waters his dazzled eyes could see a blaze of light and color, his world from night set free. Yet we for whom life's colors shine vibrant, strong and clear in wombs of Spirit blindness may wander unaware. God's truth which comes to seek us in humble, outcast guise, within our spirit's darkness may seem ill-timed, unwise. Come, Jesus, heal your people, turn blindness into sight; give us a clear discernment go know your truth aright. Teach us to see your image in every human soul till greed and warfare perish and humankind is whole.
