Nicodemus comes by night, Seeking One who is the Light, Fearful if he comes by day He will give himself away. Nicodemus must find out What salvation is about; He is worthiest of men, Must, like us, be born again. Scarcely he believes his ears: Rabbi, he, these many years! That he does not turn aside Proves he overcomes his pride. On a day when cowards run He declares what side he's on; Strangest of all gifts, he gives Space in death - to One who lives.
