In the beginning: God! No earth or sea or skies. In the beginning: God, but nothing other-wise. In the beginning: Word, unheard and still unseen; not even brooding bird, no space or time for scene. When all is said and done (in the beginning: God!) when earth has been and gone, there will be only God, who is the first and last, the seed and sum of life; there will be no more thirst no crying, pain or death. But for the great between, unending, unbegun, the things that can't be seen are named and they are done. God gives the human race its likelihood divine, its hours and ways of space, its alphabet of time. The great between is now and time is ours to tell. God comes and shows us how to stand and walk and spell. So life becomes a feast, a round to set us free, for God is first and last and in between are we!
