O God of heaven, we give thee thanks for all thy gifts of light: the brilliance of the sun by day, the moon and stars by night; and that most gracious Light of lights, our Savior and our King, who came the night of sin to end, eternal day to bring. O God of earth, we give thee thanks for making earth so fair; for plains and mountains, lakes and streams, for sky and sea and air. O God of life, we give thee thanks for grass and herb and tree, for living creatures of all kinds, and for humanity. O God, who marks the sparrow's fall, teach us to treat this earth and all its life with tender care, for thou didst give it birth, and thou didst interweave its parts into a fragile whole that ignorance and greed can wreck: make stewardship our goal. O Day Star, end our night of sin, our plundering of the earth, our savagery to living things. Teach us to know the worth of all thy gifts, and to accept them as a trust from thee. Help us to guard them for all time and for eternity.
