A woman stood accused. The sinner had been found. But Jesus, seeming not to hear, wrote something on the ground. He said, "To throw a stone you must be free from sin." then Jesus, bending to the ground, began to write again. Convicted in their hearts, their own lives now laid bare, the old and then the young went out. The woman waited there. And Jesus asked of her, "What happened to the crowd? Did no one stay to cast a stone?" "No one," she said aloud. "Then I do not condemn the life you lived before. Your judges all have gone away, so go and sin no more.
