Will we lose the earth beneath us, will we lose the air we need, will we lose lifegiving water— lose them all to serve some greed? Will we lose this fragile planet, lose the brown, the green, the blue, lose the colors of creation, while we wonder what to do? We have followed empty pleasures down a highway paved with grief. We have sacrificed creation— river, ocean, tree, and leaf. We have used the world God gave us, rushing toward a selfish end. We consumed with wanton power all we could with love defend. As we name our fears and failures, Spirit, come like holy fire. Burn away the dross within us, till your will is our desire. Come, transform our fear of losing. Use our failure and our doubt. Turn them into prayer and promise as we work your purpose out.
